I have the honor of coaching Vinh one of our awesome coaches here at Rucci's Gym. I started working with Vinh before he started his position here and he's always been a very diligent and hard working lifter who's always taken on board feedback and improved himself technically. The result speaks for itself really weighing a light 64.55kg and hitting personal bests in each lift and total, taking the gold in the 67.5s.

We've been dieting Braydon down out of the 110s and in to the 100s so he's competed at almost 10kg lighter than his previous meet. The plan is to get him in to the 90s for his next meet next year. We were 22.5kg off his best total but a great result considering the weight drop.

G hit the spot today (pun intended)! Absolutely nailing her competition going 9 from 9 with some very nice personal bests in each lift and her first ever 400kg total, welcome to the club! Taking gold in the 75s for her hard work and the overall ladies winner again!

Not the best day for Kerry being 5kg off her best total but coming down with something during the week probably didn't help her. What I love about Kerry though is she never complained, she just got on with it and put on her best performance. Not surprising the bench was a little off coming off being unwell. Head up Kerry, big year next year!

7 from 9 lifts and a good day in the office for Kelly. A last minute decision to enter this comp. with little per-competitive preparation, and still achieving bests in multiple lifts and total. Re-enforcement again, it's the work you put in outside of specific training periods that have the greatest impact, because they build the base. Missing her second squat on depth which was very close, but smashing 100kg on her third, and a missed opportunity to add 5kg to her squat best.
60kg bench in comp checked off and deadlift really moving along nicely comp to comp now. Very good performance.

Big Les keeps surprising me. Listens to everything as instructed and it shows. A significant personal best in his deadlift and squat propelling his total by 20kg.
8 from 9 lifts so a very good day in the office, and not a kg left on the platform.

Brett is a very gutsy lifter, which makes it comfortable to call attempts knowing he won't give up on it. A little down on the bench but performing very well on squat and deadlift. 300kg deadlift approaching.

Mat didn’t have the easiest prep leading into last weekend, trying to balance full time work with study as well as a niggling shoulder injury (hence the token bench). Never the less he showed up and supported his training and team mates and walked away with a nice 5kg deadlift PR. Next year is going to be a big year for Matty so I’m excited to get things underway and set some new goals.

Leanne has been a lifter of mine for quite some time now and ion that time she has managed to put an impressive 52.5kg on her total as well as some substantial technical improvements. Leanne had a rocky start, missing her opening squat (nearly giving me a heart attack in the process) but managed to pull it together and squat a nice PR and go on to have a great day all round.

Since coming on board Zac has made some enormous technical and absolute improvements and hasn’t missed a beat in training. This was Zac’s first sanctioned meet and although he didn’t quite walk away with the result he wanted I think we can all agree; a 27.5kg improvement in the squat isn’t something to be poo-poo’d. We know what we need to work on and knowing Zac; there is no doubt in my mind that he will blow these numbers away come April.

Adam “the best hair in powerlifting” Bedi is an absolute work horse, putting a massive 47.5kg on his total and would have had a perfect 9/9 day if not for only narrowly missing his third attempt bench (170kg).

Another first timer to the sanctioned platform Sezar takes the cake for most improved lifter. He put in the work in the gym to really get on top of a couple little technical issues he’s been having and the improvements speak for themselves. It’s been a very big year for Sezar and I couldn’t be more proud of his efforts.

Keegan is another incredibly consistent lifter who week in week out puts in the work, and the outcome speaks for itself. It was a battle for gold on the day and only getting pipped on BW being that Keegan weighed in 700g heavier than his competitor. I know I speak for Keegan when I say next time it will not be so close.

Natalie has had a two year stint away from the platform, in which time she’s studied, opened a gym, and volunteered at numerous meets. So it was my absolute pleasure to prepare Natalie for her comeback, and what a comeback it was! Putting an enormous 32.5kg on her total. We’re back to the drawing board now with some more goals to check off. Incredible work Natalie!

An outstanding performance here for Sam, we had a bit of an up and down prep with Sam starting full time work and struggling for time. However we worked together and set up a routine that was not only time efficient but also, clearly, quite effective. A 60kg PR total is nothing short of awesome. I know Sam is as keen as I am to get him back on the platform in April and make even more improvements.

Brax had a great day and fantastic first meet (going over 600kg total and pulling 600lb!). He’s come a very long way in only a short amount of time under my guidance. With some more consistent training and some honing in on his technique I’m sure he will grow to become an even better lifter.
